WORK IN PROCESS Oceanic Plankton (and News About My New Life)

PLANKTON - Watercolor (30 x 30 cm)

PLANKTON – Watercolor (30 x 30 cm)

Delicate forms, building the basis of the ocean’s food chain. My first choice : watercolor. Paper warps, it’s a bit thin, I put it under books and it will be ok tomorrow. I’ll continue to experiment with this form of drawing and painting.

It has been a week now that I definitely left my dayjob in order to become a full time artist. It was time, and I wonder why I have not done it earlier. On the other hand, you have to feel ready to take action like that, and leave all the secret fears behind you (artist = poor:).
I am rich, and I’m not talking about money. I’m thinking in terms of “ideas, visions”  I am wealthy, I am a millionaire and I want to share that fortune…

I have to find my own rythm in this new life.

Now it (ideas in the form of drawings and paintings etc) can just bubble out of me, I give time and energy to those ideas and then take them outside so that others can see them. With Kim we are preparing the artmarket in Germany on June 23 (she’ll arrive here in Paris next Sunday) and our exhibition there together with a third artist, Verena from Germany.

I’m into Plankton, Whales and Shipwrecks and will give you more images soon.

Oh, also: finally Summer has arrived, olé !

ROUX ! – Redheaded…

22-02-2013-Roux001-web-2

ROUX – watercolor and ink 30 x 30 cm

A couple of weeks ago, I heard on the evening news, that a boy took his life after having been harassed in school, for years , only because he was a redhead…… How many million years will it take for us to become really humane?

(the text in the painting says: “you’re a redhead – you shut up !” )

Friendly Fishes – the artist’s diary

AHDP-1801-2013-FriendlyFish002-web

They come to the  waterfront, big round colored fishes …they look at us and speak to us.

They are so trusting and friendly. I can pet them, they feel nice, smooth and round, and they like that.

Let the world into your heart: Sketch whenever you can

I had my complex camera with me, of course, and very good advice from all the photographer friends around me. When you go out of the fully air-conditioned hotel, your camera lens fogs up immediately, (you too, by the way) and you can shoot photos with a “David Hamilton” effect, or wait until the lens clears up, which takes 5 minutes.

The beautiful river promenade through Singapore

There were also two sketchbooks in my backpack, one tiny Hahnemühle Sketchbook 9 x 14 cm which I used a lot for simple ink pen drawings as it’s so easy to carry around.  The other a Clairefontaine Travel Album, 21 x 29,5 (A4) 180g. I had also Inkpens, pencils, watercolor crayons, and a little Windsor & Newton “COTMAN” watercolor paint box which I always take with me, every day of the year.

The first sketch in the Travel Album, The Botanic Garden in the middle of Singapore. A sudden warm shower helped dilute the watercolor crayons I’d used, as well as some of the non waterproof inkpen lines….

Take your sketchbook everywhere and if what’s going on around you inspires you, then draw it. You can use color on site, if you have the necessary tools with you, or at home, afterwards. Capture one precious moment  in time. The more you do it, the more you’ll love it, I promise you that! Don’t let yourself get distracted by the people around you, you’ll get used to them.

Don’t think about what others could think about your sketch. It’s not about producing something correct, exact, accurate. It’s about letting the world into your heart through your eyes! Reflect what you see, feel it, re-create it. Be wild. Do it for yourself.

The Old Barge (La vieille péniche)

One day it’s the big city and windowshopping, the next day it’s a walk by the river Marne.  When I go home from my dayjob in the early evening, I often take “the long way” home. I get off the train later, and walk alongside the river.

There is this old barge, rusting away but still beautiful. I think the barge serves as a kitchen to a little restaurant. They serve “tajines“. A metal bridge connects restaurant and ship. I stood and sketched, and when I was almost done, raindrops began to fall on the page:)
