I don’t often try to put people in “situations” when I draw them, (except Miss Doodle) , on the contrary, I isolate them from their context, mainly cause I don”t have the time and also because that would be boring, as the context is always the same old train.
It is interesting to pick one person, separate her from the surroundings, and draw that person, fix it on a sheet of blank paper. There’s only her and me. The lady I drew this morning looked at me all the time, and I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable, as that would have made ME uncomfortable, so I just stole some glances:) , sketching without looking at her too much, hiding behind my lowered eyelids:).
My studio is quite nice. It has light, it is tri-angular, it is my kitchen too. The studio has three windows and one door, and a circular wooden staircase which leads to the room upstairs.
It has a leather chair, Oscar’s favourite, (and Oscar and Knut are often fighting for that chair:) - also an old Ikea chair which makes your butt ache after little time;) it has a big working table, and a dining table with 4 chairs. The kitchen is where I cook, (or not lol) and mix my pigments, it has a nice wooden bar and there are two barchairs. The cats like to sit on the bar, or walk around the kitchen area in general….They also like to sit by the window on that little wooden closet, look out on the street and greet the people walking by.
There is a joyful mess on my table right now, love it.:)

Now I only have a 8 minute ride on the train to sketch, but I can do it. Not always, but right now there are less people in the train as people are on holiday. Those two probably spent their night partying and they were sound asleep, I hope they did not miss their station:)

Sometimes you may have visitors from another century. In the morning I had met with the very contemporary jeans-guy in the left sidebar, the one playing with his toy. And in the late afternoon, on my way home, this Lady came doodling out of my inkpen.
I guess my mind was inspired by a painting by Edgar Degas which always impressed me, “ Buveur d’absinthe”, and by the women Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec used to portrait.

Time goes by so quickly, I have spent the most wonderful and inspiring two weeks with dear friends and family, re-discovering Paris with them.
In the meantime, I forgot all about the events which made the headlines almost two weeks earlier, which makes me think that it’s interesting to not only draw my fellow metro-travellers but also something which is related to what is going on in the rest of the “space” beyond my Metrobubble. “Metrobubble” is a very accurate expression for my (our) state of mind in the Metro, which my friend Kim from Creative Influences invented and which I love. Each traveller has his own private METROBUBBLE.
After I drew the two women , I saw one of the ubiquitous Metro-Newspapers on the empty seat in front of mine and the headlines about the hateful act of aggression in Moscow caught my eye. It had happened the evening before and I had already forgotten about it. Now I thought: those people in Moskow just sat in the Metro, when this happened, like we do now, perhaps there was even one person drawing other fellows and suddenly: Boum. Disaster and despair.
While writing this, Mahatma Gandhi comes to my mind and I’d like to finish my post with a quote by him: “You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”
Have a good weekend.

Ours are happily singing and twittering, beginning at 4 am. The blackbird woke me up this morning, and I listened to his song for a while: what a miracle, a little black bird can produce such sound! Wow. Suddenly I’m not afraid of singing really loud when I play my guitar. Thanks little bird, for giving me courage!
Have a wonderful Thursday.

I’m still pondering on this.
