The Stolen Glance and my studio

Trainpeople – The stolen glance – Moleskine Notebook Sketch

I don’t often try to put people in “situations” when I draw them, (except Miss Doodle) , on the contrary, I isolate them from their context, mainly cause I don”t have the time and also because that would be boring, as the context is always the same old train.

It is interesting to pick one person, separate her from the surroundings, and draw that person, fix it on a sheet of blank paper. There’s only her and me. The lady I drew this morning looked at me all the time, and I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable, as that would have made ME uncomfortable, so I just stole some glances:) , sketching without looking at her too much, hiding behind my lowered eyelids:).

My studio is quite nice. It has light, it is tri-angular, it is my kitchen too. The studio has three windows and one door, and a circular wooden staircase which leads to the room upstairs.

It has a leather chair, Oscar’s favourite, (and Oscar and Knut are often fighting for that chair:) - also an old Ikea chair which makes your butt ache after little time;) it has a big working table, and a dining table with 4 chairs. The kitchen is where I cook, (or not lol) and mix my pigments, it has a nice wooden bar and there are two barchairs. The cats like to sit on the bar, or walk around the kitchen area in general….They also like to sit by the window on that little wooden closet, look out on the street and greet the people walking by.

I so enjoyed the romp around your studio with the cats! I like that watercolor hanging up and your lesson for catching glances while drawing people. I intend to draw at lunch today if I can in the German Bakery I am going to. I’ll think of you while there! ;-)

  3. Oscar and Knut are so adorable! What a pair! Don’t you love how cats ALWAYS find the best chair to nap in? The sleeping boys…..*almost* angelic! A-ha-ha! The sketch in the window sill is precious….

Your studio is gorgeous….as I have imagined it…I also love the fact you have a winding staircase that leads to another room!!!

As Lynn stated, the gentle way you catch your subject unawares is wonderful….I can almost see you on the train, working away….

Hugs to you and the Furry Ones!

I like your people extracted from the train environment. Floating in infinity. Of course, she could have been staring at nothing, I mean seeing nothing. You know. I do that sometimes myself. But better safe than sorry.

I love seeing your studio. YOu have made it quite practical and cozy and the kitties look right at home and contented.

well, glad you are young enough to climb a spiral stairway. I dont think I could handle that every day.!! But your place sounds so cute.

give those kitties a hug from me! And from Bibbs. Best, Suki

  5. I enjoyed the glimpse of your studio.

  6. Dear Friends, thank you for the comments, I slowly begin to fee confident enough in my new environment, to paint, to enjoy the space I have there for my art, and am enjoying coming back to your blogs too to see what YOU are up to. Not everyone has a blog, I looked for Kathleen’s and Teresa’s but didn’t find any, so I leave my thanks her. I visited your websites and enjoyed your art very much:)
