A Visitor from another Century

19th Century Idea

Visitor from another Century - Moleskine Watercolor Sketch

Sometimes you may have visitors from another century. In the morning I had met with the very contemporary jeans-guy in the left sidebar, the one playing with his toy. And in the late afternoon, on my way home, this Lady came doodling out of my inkpen.

I guess my mind was inspired by a painting by Edgar Degas which always impressed me,  “ Buveur d’absinthe”, and by the women Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec used to portrait.

  1. Andrea, you really have captured Degas’ style! You are such a terrific artist. Such a beautiful style you have. This woman feels very much alive to me.

Andrea, she is so beautiful! Isn’t it a wonder how this intuitive art makes it’s presence known just when we least expect it. I can see the resemblance to Degas, however I wonder if she just wanted to visit Andrea? It is something to consider. I am very much taken with her calm expression as well as her very active stance. It is as though she is considering something very important which needs to be taken care of at the moment.

“A Man and His Toy” is quite intriguing. I am sure you see people on the Metro playing all the time. I suppose we all have our toys only some are more common than others. The electronic toys seem to be more noticeable in public. I wonder if you ever come across other sketchers on the Metro. I did not notice any when we were there, but you could sketch an Artist Metrohead! LOL

Thanks so much for sharing these wonderful sketches with us. They are both truly wonderful.
