Too much color ? ……..BACK TO THE BASICS Part I.

This is my box with the red, yellow and umber and ochre tones. Beautiful tubes from different brands like Sennelier, Daler and Rowney, Winsor and Newton, Schmincke and Blockx.

Here is the box with the blues and greens.  I like the many different shades for abstract watercolor work, but for the figurative or semi-abstract paintings I need to get back to the basics.

Currently I’m working on a new painting called “Red Lips” for the “Place Igor Stravinsky” Series. The “Red Heart”, first painting of this series is waiting for a “sister”.

Well well well. I got stuck in the process after having set the shapes and perspectives with pencil.

The pallette I had choosen didn’t satisfy me and I thought that perhaps I was working with many “premixed” colors here and that, before going on with this painting, I should do something else, step away from it.

The wise owl on my desk says: “Come back to the roots” !

When you get blocked, the “back to the basics” exercise is wonderful, well, for me it works. Take 3 to 5 colors, a big nice piece of watercolor paper, two big glasses or bowls of water which will have to be renewed several times during the exercise, your favourite brush and make a pallette. For me this is like meditation. It is something I can concentrate on and indulge in when I’m afraid to continue a painting or to begin one. It brings me back to my personal artplanet. Try it, follow the wise owl’s advice, get back to the basics.

I’d like to create some suspens here and also, I have to take pictures of what I did next, therefore please, have a wonderful week and don’t miss the next post. :)
