These are my little Metro Angels, drawn on Thursday last week during one of my trips through Paris to safety-job.
Like many other artists, I have been painting angels throughout my whole life, in many variations. Messengers of god, they exist in many religious traditions. Everybody must have painted an angel at least once in his/her life, what do you think? I know a great many people are so fascinated by the idea, the concept of ANGEL. It’s comforting to have them around. We love angels. I do. Do you?
Hovering, floating, levitating, transparent, they are sometimes lofty, sometimes compassionate, colorful or just white, golden or black.
Angels can be female, male, pudgy babies, beautiful androgynous young adults, old men too. (see my very first post of parisdreamtime).
Angels often have wings.
They can be kind but also grim, if we listen to the stories told about them. At times they are avenging, annunciating, protecting. There are angels of glory, angels of death and protecting angels.
Well, this is what I pondered during my trip on the Paris-Metro on a Thursday early evening in the month of January 2010:)
Have a great weekend!

Ah this is a beautiful post. I love your Metro Angels and their wonderful embroidered headdresses! You have the greatest way with your Metro Sketchbook! I love this and all of the questions you pose, too.
You give me so much to think about, and I think I do need to spend some journal time contemplating them. Of course I love angels and have so many in my life. I think they often take on lots of names. I am always fascinated with the way film makers portray angels, too. I think they are such an enticing figure, because they are the bridge which connects earthly and heavenly and external and internal. Does that make sense? They are present through all aspects and as you say (and I am quite sure I agree) across cultures.
Mmmm, I never thought of angels with only blond hair, isn’t that interesting? I think of them with golden and silver halos, though!
I love this post!
Thanks Andrea!
one of my favorite poems is about angels (here on my blog: http://tammyvitale.com/a-gifts-from-angels/). I like it because they don’t come off as “angelic.” Not quite all sweetness and light, much more like the tricksters of North American natives and Africa: coyote and Anansi (the spider).
Andrea you have such beautiful thoughts in that Paris metro and your angels are very special. I like their haircuts although i’ve never imagined them that way.
I have drawn and painted angels, also made them out of fabric and tonight on a fullmoonmeditation i met one. There are angels in all sorts and fashions and so special to meet one.

your unique angesl have big hats to contain all their wonderous thoughts. I dont know if I believe or dont believe in angels but I do think about them and like to think they are hovering in my life and in the world.
