Miss Doodle’s lesson…

Miss Doodle figurative, waiting for spring, Moleskine illustration

Some time ago, I decided to re-locate Miss Doodle from my Moleskine Sketchbook onto “GOOD” Arche Watercolor Paper.

Well, what can I say. Miss Doodle took offense and vanished without a trace!  A couple of months passed, then she must have sensed my growing despair….She let me know (by letter through my morning journal) that she really resented my decision, that she did not want to be presented on uptight high-quality paper because it made her play-act and inhibited her to no end.  Neither could she travel with me in the metro anymore, as obviously I became too obsessed with her behaving perfectly and with getting my (and her) lines straight and that she didn’t give a damn about looking or behaving perfectly!  Yes, that is what she said.

So, after times of anguish (can you imagine what life is without Miss Doodle??)  I made up my mind and let her know in a dream: I’d keep her in my Moleskine sketchbook forever if she came back to me.  She showed up a week later, as sparkling, kind and colorful as ever.  I’m thankful to have her back in my Moleskine and I’m deeply grateful for the lesson she gave me about perfection! Thank you Miss Doodle!

Have a wonderful week

love

  1. Well Andrea, you gotta love a woman who knows what she wants! LOL I am so glad you and Miss Doodle had a meeting of the minds and that she likes to travel with you. She seems to pop up just when you need her, too. What an elegant muse!

Now, I have to say, though, I do love Miss Doodle showing off here. She clearly knows what she wants from you and what she is willing to share. This is such a wonderful painting. I wonder if she will allow some translation from time to time? LOL

Spring is on the way…it feels like it here, already, although I know it is a false start!

    Thanks Andrea!

    • :)
Kim, our discussions concerning perfect lines, well that certainly helped me make up my mind concerning MIss Doodle featuring in my Moleskine notebook:)
Miss Doodle en attente du printemps, Miss Doodle waiting for spring!:)

      • Oui, I think we are all “en attente du printemps.” :-)

We just have to stay open to all of the possibilities, right?

  2. Miss Doodle is fun and not pretentious… so of course she wants to go where you go and what better place then your mole skin. Reminds me of Beatrix Potter and how she talked to her ‘friends’ and they would just pop up when she needed them. We missed Miss Doodle.. so glad she came back.
I find that I can paint unless I get rid of the perfection mind set.

    • Hi Cris:) you are so right, MD isn’t pretentious and I was….:) She’s my muse and I’m really thankful that she made me discover this bit of insight…that she can’t pop up when I need her if I keep her on a leash:)

  3. Glad to see Miss D again and to hear her story. Wow. That is quite a lesson Miss D gave forth! One we can all learn from too, not that I am perfectionist in my crafts, but I am in my writing. Hi again Miss Doodle. The song “April in Paris” seems to fill my mind

  4. Hi Suki, I’m glad that you can relate to this experience too, perfectionisme is a good thing but we have to use it with caution, (if that is possible) …
